Description
This was for a Creature of the Week on conceptart.org, but I don't think it will make it in, because I can't get into the thread to post it... it just clogs up for some reason, so here it is for now. I'm sure I'll refine it later.
This design was inspired initially by mosquito larvae, which, in summer, wriggle around in standing, algae-filled water until they hatch into airborne maturity. The False Trap Bug idles in hibermation beneath the water in spring as small, potato-shaped larvae, and in summer, they bob up to the surface and begin their metamorphosis, creating a hard pupae on which plants grow. False leaves and buds, which are actually the bug's fleshy lures, grow through the top of the pupa as it matures, and the final false trapper's lower body and head molt their hard coverings. what remains is a convincing replica of a common bugtrapper plant, which disguises the false trapper as it floats on standing water of ponds and waits for pray.
