Rough color comp- baby monster

I was just fiddling around one night, trying to figure out my junior project animation and what the character would look like who would star in it. I want to portray the evolutionary race as a physical race between this cute little guy and a predator that chases him while he constantly evolves to evade danger. In the end, he'll get the best of his tormentor.

I want him to look really cute at first, and have a lot of texture when translated to 3D; moist, amphibian-y goodness.
